Why Complete a Biology Minor?

A biology minor is an excellent way to deepen your understanding of the living world while complementing a wide variety of academic majors. Biology connects to many fields, and adding a minor can strengthen your knowledge base, broaden your skill set, and expand your career opportunities.

Students pursuing majors in areas such as Psychology, Health Sciences, Secondary Education, Chemistry, and Environmental Geosciences, often benefit from a biology minor because it provides a stronger foundation in life sciences. This additional background can be especially valuable for careers related to healthcare, teaching, research, environmental management, science communication, and policy.

A biology minor also helps students develop important scientific skills, including critical thinking, data interpretation, and an understanding of how biological systems function—from the cellular level to ecosystems. These skills are highly valued in many professional settings.

For students considering graduate or professional programs—such as medicine, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, public health, or environmental science—a biology minor can strengthen academic preparation and demonstrate a strong interest in the life sciences.

Ultimately, a biology minor allows students to explore fascinating biological concepts while enhancing their primary field of study and preparing for a wide range of future opportunities.
