|
VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Relay for Life steering committee will have its kick-off event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Palms Quad.
The event features games, food and music, as well as the opportunity to sign up a Relay for Life team. ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s actual Relay for Life event will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 and this year’s theme is Game OVER, Cancer!
“Relay for Life is the thing to do on campus,” said Casey Holcom, coordinator. “It is the biggest event on campus each and every year and it is the only event that brings every student, faculty member, student organization, fraternity, sorority, club and everything in between together for one night to unite for one cause - putting an end to cancer. Not only is it a great cause to get behind. It is also one of the most fun experiences someone can find at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ.”
During the 2012-13 school year, a total of $48,562 was raised to support cancer research. Fifty-eight teams participated in last year’s event, and 55 of those teams were ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ student organizations. The top raising team consisted of Chi Omega, Delta Chi and Sigma Chi who raised $8,169. The top raising individual was Rebecca Murphy, who raised $2,176.
