ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ partners with ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. to make online learning accessible to all ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵns

Registration begins July 5 for fall 2000 academic term online courses

Valdosta State University and four other University System of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ (U.S.G.) colleges and universities will offer online courses during the fall 2000 academic term through ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E.

Registration for online courses begins July 5 on the ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. (Global Learning Online for Business and Education) Web site at . Students may also call ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. at 1-888-404-2740 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, to register for fall semester. The schedule for telecourses will be available July 15.

ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. is the University System of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ's distance learning initiative designed to offer one-stop access to class registration, online classes, class materials and telecourses from U.S.G. schools.

In addition to Valdosta State, the other U.S.G. institutions that are affiliates of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. are Clayton College & State University, Columbus State University, Floyd College and the State University of West ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ.

Through ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E., students will be able to get information about college courses, degree programs and financial aid, complete the enrollment processes and then access online courses they wish to take.

The Fall 2000 term online will include the eCore,� which are courses designed to meet freshmen and sophomore requirements and includes courses such as English, history, math and political science.

Currently, only the five ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. affiliates offer eCore� courses via the World Wide Web and as telecourses.

"ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. and its affiliates, like Valdosta State University, are breaking down barriers to higher education that many students face," said Dr. Richard A. Skinner, president and CEO of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. "Technology is allowing students who cannot attend traditional classes on campus to have an opportunity to take college courses."

The five ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ G.L.O.B.E. affiliates agreed to accept standards for both students and courses. Students must be admitted as regular students to an affiliate institution, and courses must meet the Principles of Good Practices, established by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB).
